Pure Norway has launched two high quality aquavites, Aquavit Silver and Aquavit Classic Gold. They have an unique taste and design which represents the Norwegian nature and spirit.

Aquavit is an aromatic spirit with a minimum alcohol volume of 37.5%. The main spices used are Caraway or Dill.

Christopher Blix Hammer (1720 – 1804) is regarded as the father of Norwegian aquavit, Norway’s national spirit. Production is based on rectified Norwegian potato spirit of the purest quality and distilled extract of caraway and, amongst others, fennel, coriander, lemon and orange peel, and anis. Recipes are closely guarded secrets! The finished product mellows in old sherry casks from Spain.

Aquavit can be drunk slightly chilled (4-5oC), but many prefer it at room temperature. Do not put it in the freezer! It will lose its taste and character. Our Aquavit is golden in colour with a mild and rich, spicy aroma, with an elegant note of oak from the casks. In Norway, aquavit is drunk together with light beer, particularly at Christmas and with traditional fatty Norwegian foods such as salted and smoked meats. Chilled aquavit is the perfect companion to fish   dishes, herring, salmon and shellfish. It is also well suited to traditional Norwegian fish dishes such as lye-cured cod, brine-cured salmon and semi-fermented trout.

But PURE Norway Aquavit can also be drunk without beer. It is itself very tasty and even if it cannot claim to be helpful against “all known internal ailments a person can have”, as the old letterwriter claimed, the combination of spices and herbs induces a general feeling of wellbeing.

So, as we say in Norway: “SKÅL!”.

It is no secret that Norwegians love berries. Berries are a sinigicant part of Norwegian food traditions and they are a colourful as well as a healthy contribution to the Norwegian lifestyle. Scientific studies show that berries have some of the highest antioxidant levels of any fresh fruit. Berries are also the most powerful (and delicious) disease-fighting foods available. The natural blue, purple, and red colour pigment of berries has also been associated with a lower risk of certain cancers, urinary tract health, good memory function, and healty aging.

The Sami people, who live in the wild open spaces of northern Norway, maintain the age-old

tradition of herding reindeer. Reindeer meat is a pure taste of this untamed environment.

Vast numbers of lambs, sheep and goats are herded along the western coast of Norway and on the open slopes of the Hardangervidda National Park. These animals graze the unspoilt
