UPT completes studies for BP

Bergen-based Umoe Process Technology has completed studies for BP into ways of reducing flaring and venting on offshore platforms.

BP plans to eliminate all routine venting and flaring on its oil and gas producing facilities by 2001 and 2003 respectively and is scheduled this autumn to decide how to cut flaring and venting on the Forties Field. In a Forties study, UPT looked into ways of using excess gas on the platforms, while another study examined the feasibility of flare gas recovery at Schiehallion.Meanwhile, a subsea version of UPT’s flare ignition system is to be installed on an offshore site in Qatar, providing an environmentally friendly system for flare tripods for the TP1 processing platform. Plans are also being considered to install UPT’s subsea system at nine locations off India.
