Exports to Brazil jumped the most, up 213 percent to a value of NOK 152 million. Most of the sales involved the dried fish, both cod and pollock, used to make such dishes as bacalao.
Norwegian exporters are hoping that a weaker Norwegian currency and improvements in the Brazilian economy will lead to further sales increases.
Salmon exports, meanwhile, rose 13 percent, to a total value of NOK 820 million. Production volume jumped 16 percent, to 33,000 tons.
Norway’s three biggest markets for its seafood (the EU, eastern European countries and Japan) all showed strong results.
