The price was received by Per Holte, Marketing Director at Innovation Norway. He said that Norway is very proud to have won this prestigious award. More than 800 000 Chinese internet users have voted for Norway online, and the award proves that Norway holds a strong position in the Chinese market.
The amount of Chinese people travelling abroad is increasing compared to previous years, and the potential in the Chinese market is huge. Receiving the award is a very positive sign in relation to the work we do to increase the branding of Norway as travel destination in China, says Per-Arne Tuftin, Tourism Director at Innovation Norway.
Travel Weekly China is the leading magazine for the Chinese tourism industry, and since the first awards were held in 2002, the Travel Weekly China Travel and Meeting Industry Awards have gained a lot of recognition. It is currently considered to be one of the most reliable, fair and creative awards in the Chinese tourism industry.
It was tough competition in the category for “best ecological travel destination”, and Norway won the prize over countries like Switzerland and New Zealand. The criteria’s for winning the award are very high, and countries were first nominated by professional judges, before the readers of Travel Weekly voted among the finalists.
