Norsk Hydro awards major contract

Norway's Norsk Hydro awarded on Tuesday a deal worth about NOK 1 billion (USD 144 million) to a unit of Houston-based FMC Technologies for equipment and services for its Ormen Lange offshore gas field.

The order on behalf of the Ormen Lange license-holders to FMC Kongsberg Subsea AS includes engineering, purchasing, construction and testing of subsea equipment, Norsk Hydro said in a statement.

It said that the one-billion-crown contract value excluded further equipment delivery options under the same agreement.

Ormen Lange, due to begin production in 2007, is the largest gas field under development on the Norwegian continental shelf.

Partners in Ormen Lange are Norsk Hydro with 17.96 percent, production phase operator Shell with 17.2 percent, Norway’s state-owned Petoro with 36 percent, Britain’s BP with 10.89 percent, Norway’s Statoil with 10.77 percent and ExxonMobil with 7.18 percent.
