Will the ice on Antarctica melt?

What are the tipping points related to the Antarctic Ice Sheet and surrounding Southern Ocean? And why is it so crucial to assess these critical thresholds? New video out now!

Part of the Antarctic continent experiences a temperature increase much higher than rest of the world. A new temperature record is set at the Argentinian Esperanza base on the northern tip of the Antarctic peninsula and some smaller West Antarctic Ice Shelves are experience increase ocean induced melting. However, this does not necessary mean that the enormous south pole ice sheet will melt. This question is connected to possible tipping points in the Antarctic climate components, a small change in ice/ocean conditions in the future could lead to long-lasting or even irreversible changes – with important implications for global sea-level rise.

So, what are the tipping points related to the Antarctic Ice Sheet and surrounding Southern Ocean? And why is it so crucial to assess these critical thresholds?
