Multiconsult has supported the project from the feasibility study, through design and procurement, and right up to construction supervision and commissioning. In her speech, Ambassador Elisabeth Jacobsen highlighted the important role that Multiconsult has played in making the infrastructure a reality and thanked the team for their hard work.

The two solar-storage micro grids have been financed through a grant from the Government of Norway and will be owned and operated by the Zanzibar Electricity Corporation. They are a small but important contribution towards Zanzibar´s goal of increased generation of renewable energy and universal access to electricity by 2030.

Multiconsult´s Project Director Mari Sofie Furu highlights the multidisciplinary nature of the project, which demonstrates Multiconsult´s capabilities as a one-stop shop for technical, environmental, social, financial, and economic aspects of renewable energy projects in Africa.

Projections by the International Energy Agency indicate that 30 percent of the new connections that are necessary to achieve the Sustainable Development Goal no. 7 of universal access to energy will be made most efficiently and economically through solutions outside of the main, national grids. Multiconsult is supporting this development across our key markets in Africa, including Uganda, Mozambique, and Tanzania. The micro-grids on Kokota and Njau are a nice example of how such investments can change people’s lives to the better.
