Bound for the Barents

Norwegian oil companies Statoil and Hydro are calling the Barents Sea the next great petroleum province. Along with the country’s service and equipment suppliers, they’re tapping their side of the Barents and leading a rush for Arctic oil and gas in Russia. Ahead is Shtokmanovskoye – or “Shtokman” – a giant Barents gas accumulation of 3.2 trillion cubic metres. The field is lighting the way for an engagement of world-renowned Norwegian technology and a Russian energy sector keen to get offshore. Oilfield cooperation between the two countries is about to peak.
