TrønderEnergi AS is an energy and industrial company whose major type of business is connected to the production of hydroelectric and wind power and the distribution of energy.

In October 2009 TrønderEnergi AS commisioned a hydroelectric power station in the village of Bugoye in Uganda. For residents of Bugoye the power plant means clean drinking water, better health, education and work. For TrønderEnergi this means return on investments, valuable competence development, a conscious contribution to cleaner energy production and less CO2 emissions.

The project in Bugoye is an important step in further developing TrønderEnergi’s own expertise in new hydropower development as well as the development of major social values in Uganda.

Contributes to Business Development
The energy produced increases the total national electricity supply in Uganda by 2.5%, and energy from hydroelectric power by 7%. According to the Ugandan Government the power plants that TrønderEnergi has built will provide opportunities to increase commercial activity, including increased investment in tourism, and coffee and tea manufacturing. Today the plant is operated by 15 local well-trained people in close contact with TrønderEnergi.

TrønderEnergi has an absolute requirement in creating real value for the community which the company operates in. The company’s business strategy is in line with Norwegian and international development policy that emphasizes renewable energy, industrial development and mutual economic benefit.

Health & Education
In collaboration with Norfund, TrønderEnergi has made concrete efforts to improve health, education and living conditions in Bugoye. Among other things, the project has secured Bugoye and ten other villages drinking water from new and clean sources as to replace contaminated river water, and it has contributed to providing the population with education, vocational training and a new birth clinic.

New Development
Now the company is starting on a new major hydropower plant in Africa. In the Kagera River, on the border between Uganda and Tanzania, TrønderEnergi is now building a hydroelectric power station based on bulb turbine.

• In 2009 TrønderEnergi opened the company’s first overseas investment, a new hydropower plants in Bugoye in Uganda. This is the first Norwegian hydroelectric power plant in Africa financed by the private sector. The investment was a total of USD 56 million
• The power plant in Bugoye was built together with TrønderEnergi and the Norwegian, state agency Norfund, which owns 27.5% of the plant. TrønderEnergi and Norfund are represented by the company TronderPower Ltd
