The ferry is designed by Multi Maritime AS in Førde. Delivery of the ferry should happen as early as the end of May 2017.
SEVENTH FERRY AT FISKERSTRAND
The shipping company emphasized environmental aspects, and therefore chose a diesel electric low emission ferry that may also run on biodiesel. The ferry is prepared for future expansion of hybrid, plug-in hybrid or fully electric operation battery. The solution provides great flexibility with the possibility of charging power from shore. This will be at a level that is adapted to network access and capacity.
Fiskerstrand Shipyard has previously built six ferries for Boreal. Three ferries were completed in autumn 2013, the fourth was delivered in 2014 and the fifth and sixth was completed in autumn 2015.

TIME LIMITATION AN EXCITING CHALLENGE
To build an environment ferry for Boreal Transport Nord AS is an exciting challenge that the employees at the yard look forward to with great enthusiasm. That the ferry will be delivered 12 months after the signing of the contract is unique for such a vessel. This makes it a particularly exciting challenge. Fiskerstrand states in their press release that this reflects their experience they possess to find production-friendly solutions for efficient equipment. The focus is on already from the start of the technical work.
For the new ferry Fiskerstrand has chosen to build the hull with their former partner “Western Baltija Shipyard “in Klaipeda, Lithuania. Fiskerstrand has had over 30 hull built there previously. Fiskerstrand highlight its expertise in environmental technologies developed through the delivery of 4 LNG-powered ferries, 2 LNG powered feed boats and one Biodiesel battery hybrid ferry now under construction. “This ferry fits well into Fiskerstrand’s environmental strategy to develop and build future environmental ships,” states Rolf Fiskerstrand.
MULTI MARITIME DESIGN
CEO Multi Maritime Gjermund Johannessen is proud that Boreal for the seventh time in a row has chosen to subcontract a ferry designed by Multi Maritime. “It has been an exciting process where the challenge we received from the company was to make a ferry prepared for tomorrow’s environmental technology, with the shortest possible construction time. It is very gratifying that this challenge is now realized. Multi Maritime will in the future provide complete project documentation and drawing package. We are well underway so that production can now start instantly,” concludes Gjermund Johannessen.
The concept was developed by Multi Maritime AS and is closely adapted to Boreal Transport Nord demands. The new ferry will be energy efficient and will get great sea and manoeuvrability. The ferry is developed to meet new requirements for low-emission technologies and zero emissions technology in a simple and very flexible way.
