The Norwegian Oil Spill Control Association (NOSCA) provides products, technology and expertise worldwide – wherever they can be used to protect the environment. A non-profit organization founded in 1993, NOSCA represents all of the significant Norwegian suppliers of oil spill & pollution equipment and services, as well as research & development establishments and governmental agencies. It offers services covering every aspect of oil spill prevention and control to countries, port authorities and private companies. The organization currently comprises of 18 members, including the Norwegian Coastal Administration.
To further international cooperation in oil spill response, NOSCA hosts an annual seminar on oil spill technology in Norway with participants from around the globe. Not only do these seminars showcase speakers with lessons learned from their real-life experiences in some of the largest recent oil recovery missions, but they also include live oil spill simulation exercises featuring a number of the most innovative tools in the field. Over the years, representatives from 36 countries have attended NOSCA seminars.
NOSCA’s close work with its British (BOSCA) and French (SYCOPOL) counterparts has helped bring about a broad European oil spill prevention and control network that makes the most of its common experience and expertise. The fruition of this work was achieved with the introduction of the biannual international oil spill technology conference Interspill. After debuting in Brighton, UK in 2000 and moving to Brest, France for the 2002 edition, the conference & exhibition now makes its way to Norwegian soil for the first time. NOSCA is organizing Interspill 2004, which will be held in Trondheim – at the Trondheim Spektrum – from 14 to 17 June. The theme is “Clean Seas – Global Concern, Local Solutions”.
