Oslo-based Elkem, heavily owned by Alcoa of the US, logged after-tax profits of NOK 531 million through the first nine months of this year. That’s slightly up from the NOK 530 million earned in the same period last year. Aluminum operations showed the best performance, but a weak period for chrome production pulled results back down. The third-quarter showed improvement, with after-tax profits of NOK 130 million, compared to NOK 117 million in last year’s third quarter. Operating results were steady at NOK 777 million through the third quarter, compared to NOK 775 in the same nine-month period last year. Third-quarter operating results jumped from NOK 189 million last year to NOK 229 million.
