Outdoor apparel and footwear maker Columbia Sportswear has signed an agreement with Portland Norge AS to distribute its products in Norway and Iceland.
Under the deal, Portland Norge will distribute Columbia- and Sorel-branded apparel beginning with the spring 2005 product line.
It will also set up and operate Columbia Sportswear retail stores in Oslo, Norway and Reykjavik, Iceland from spring 2006.
Over the past few years, Columbia and Sorel have developed reputations overseas for producing high quality products, Columbia international operations director Bill Tung said.
We feel that this particular market has been underserved, and consumers will enjoy increased access to our products.
Although Columbia already operates a European distribution centre in Cambrai, France, the company decided to use an independent distributor for Norway and Iceland due to the fact they are not members of the European Union.
