The technology developed by IFE and CMR Prototech, and consists of a high temperature fuel cell (SOFC cell) and a reformer (sorption enhanced reformer) which convert methane into electricity and hydrogen. The fuel cell produces electricity supplied to the power net and reformer produces hydrogen, which is supplied as fuel for hydrogen vehicles. The demo facility built at Hynor Lillestrøm is 50 kW and produces 20kW of electricity and 30kW H2.
These advantages with this new and patented technology is that CO2 is an integral part of the process, while the efficiency is very high, approx. 80% compared with 50-55% in conventional power plant. The CO2 capture efficiency drops further for regular power plants, while the ZEG is an integral part of the process.
