Not so many years ago the decision to pursue one’s career in a new and unfamiliar country was viewed as being bold and adventurous, but in today’s increasingly globalized world it is more and more common. However, problems with local bureaucracy, cultural differences and the lack of a social network remain the same. International Network of Norway (INN®) assists expatriate workers with expertise and know-how.

As part of the Oslo Chamber of Commerce, INN® takes care of all traditional relocation and immigration services as well as members’ individual needs, both social and emotional, through its INN® Club Membership.

Londoner Vivek Ayer found the INN®-programme immensely helpful when he arrived in Norway last year, after landing a position at Rolls Royce’s Marine division in Oslo. At a former job at Intel he was sent quite frequently on trips to southern Norway. He therefore felt he knew a bit about the country, but moving here turned out to be a completely different story.

“I got a really good impression of Norway on those trips; I was only 20 years old, and I loved the beautiful scenery and the friendly people. However, they were only short trips. To actually live here was quite different. Luckily, the people from INN® picked me up at the airport, drove me to my apartment where they showed me the how everything works, and then took me shopping at the grocery store. I’m renting my flat here, and INN® went through the contract to see that everything was in order. Small thing, that makes a big difference when you’re in this situation.”

The social events INN® arranges are great, helping us expats develop our own social network. The first event I attended took place just before Christmas, and I met some really nice Norwegian people and tasted some rather interesting dishes! I feel these events have helped me understand Norway and Norwegians better. INN® definitely helped me settle in, and I give INN® my highest recommendation.”

Work and residence permits are complex and time consuming tasks. INN® accompanies you to the Service Center for Foreign Workers, helps you fill out the necessary application forms and helps you obtain your national identity number, a tax card, a bank account, and a local doctor. In short, INN® helps you with everything you need in your new country.

Expats who move with their families get the same services as singels, in addition to Dual Career Support, a programme for spouses who wish to find work in Norway.

INN® is represented in seven other cities in Norway. For a full list of cities, and more information on the INN®-programme, please see www.chamber.no.
