Norwegian Royal Salmon have announced their first production sites certified according to the strictest international environmental standards in the industry.
This is a global standard for responsible aquaculture that along with their green licences will contribute to a reduction in the effects on the environment and society. “This will help to move the industry even more in the direction of sustainability, and it is decisive for our ability to compete and for our future growth”, states CEO Charles Høstlund in a press release.
Norway Royal Salmon is in the process of certifying all its production sites in accordance with the ASC standard. They have announced their aim is to have all production sites ASC certified by 2020.
The ASC standard is an environmental standard that has been drawn up in cooperation with WWF. Among other things, it stipulates strict requirements as to how fish are farmed. It requires documentation concerning laws and regulations, biodiversity, fish welfare, the genetic integrity of wild populations, responsible feeding, control of fish diseases and that suppliers meet critical and essential criteria in the standard.
