Norway Exports R&D

Research & Development
In several areas Norway can offer unique competence and research opportunities. The strengths are largely related to the country’s geography, economic specialization patterns and institutional characteristics.

The Norwegian economy has been shaped by abundant natural resources. A long tradition in fishing has been complemented by a strong export-oriented aquaculture industry. Decades of extraction of oil and gas, including the development of related industrial activities in engineering and services, have had a profound impact on our innovation and R&D system. Now, innovative services industries are becoming just as important. Our statistics tell us that while manufacturing and services spend about the same on R&D, there are now more R&D man-years in the service industries than in the manufacturing industries.

It this issue you will then find a brief overview of the most important Norwegian research organizations as well as a series of articles to give you more in-depth understanding of Norway’s present focus and activities. In the second half of the magazine you will find cutting-edge Norwegian companies within research and development that provide their products or services on the global market.
