Winter School on Operational Oceanography

“You can think of Operational Oceanography as a weather forecast, but for the ocean,” Prof. Ola M. Johannessen from Nansen Environmental and Remote Sensing Center and Nansen Scientific Society said during the opening session of the this year’s Indo-Norwegian Winter School on Operational Oceanography: Indian Ocean circulation and sea level variation. With him on the dais, he had former secretary Dr Shailesh Nayak, Ministry of Earth Sciences, Ambassador Nils Ragnar Kamsvåg and the host Director Dr. Satheesh Shenoi from Indian National Centre for Ocean Information Services (INCOIS).

Through an intense week of 20 lectures, held by leading international experts on Operational Oceanography, the Winter School provides them with the opportunity to gain new knowledge and understanding on the field. The winter school was supported through the Norwegian Research Council Indnor programme.
