Visitors to be welcomed at facilities

Open for tour. (Foto: Wikimedia Commons) On Wednesday 20 April, visitors may tour two of the most notable research facilities in Svalbard. EISCAT Svalbard features one 40-meter antenna and one 32-meter antenna that enable researchers to study solar storms, day-light aurora and the upper atmosphere, whereas the Kjell Henriksen Observatory features 30 domes, housing instruments aimed at the middle and upper atmosphere to catch aurora, airglow and more.

The Longyearbyen Science and Education Forum (LySEF) is organizing the event and will be providing bus transport for up to 80 visitors between the Research Center in Svalbard and the research facilities on Gruve 7-fjellet and Breinosa, a few kilometers east of Longyearbyen.

The tour will be preceded by lectures on the activities at EISCAT and KHO at the Research Center in Svalbard at 5:30 p.m.

The Svalbard Science Forum is a LySEF observer.
