Tomax-Holten Motorsport makes pit stop at ONS 2012

The Norwegian company Tomax AS (Anti-Stall Technology LLC in the US) won the prestigious ONS Innovation Award in 2006 based on moving traction control from fast automobiles  downhole to stabilize the drillbit in difficult formations. This summer the invention has done 1 million feet and to celebrate a real rally supercar is brought on the stand for the visitors to test drive.

Modern car racing represents the forefront of mechanical engineering with early use of new materials and lubricants - often in parallel with computer and sensor based controls. To gain access to this source of competence Tomax in 2008 teamed up with the Holten Motorsport Team. The team has it home base in Rogaland and races cars in several championships series and also supplies specialist technicians to international rally and racing teams.

At 1000000 feet the use of the Tomax Anti Stall Technology (AST) is expanding faster than ever. Because the technology is applied where drilling difficulties is the predominant risk factor, the overall value from continuously improving the technology is significant and this is where new materials, coatings and lubricants becomes important.

The move of technology from the automobile  industry to the downhole environment will be the theme at outdoor stand U8 where the a regular mobile rally depot is rigged up and where the visitors are invited to climb into a real World Rally Championship car to see how well they do on a timed trial – helped by stability and traction controls of course. The fastest drivers will get the opportunity to test drive with the team after ONS.
