DNV GL's new concept is created with Norway in mind.

A ship powered by electricity with no staff. This is how DNV GL envisions the future of Norwegian shipping. 

ReVolt is the company's idea for a 60 meter long slow moving cargo ship with no staff onboard, chargeable at the docks. 

Automated ships seems to be an emerging trend, and researchers at SINTEF claim we will see ships as longs as 200 meters being automated within the next ten to twenty years.

The concept for ReVolt was developed based on a national transport plan where Norway is looking to move a larger share of transport from roads to rail and sea.

- We have analysed the data, and have come to the conclusion that these smaller types of short sea ships will be great little work horses. This will form the basis for developing future designs, says Hans Anton Tvete, Senior Researcher and Project Manager for Revolt.
