Technology suppliers need to demonstrate the business value of their solutions from the start

Suppliers are good at describing how their products work, but many suppliers could become better at describing and communicating the business case for their solutions. By describing the business value from early on in the development phase, it would become easier to attract good business partners, which again would contribute to improve the business case.

Another barrier to demonstration of new technologies is access to offshore installations. In many cases offshore tests are needed, but the study shows that many technologies just as well could have been demonstrated onshore, which would have saved both time and money. Oil companies and suppliers therefore need to work together to limit the offshore testing scope. Similarly,  cooperation would be beneficial to harmonize standards for demonstration and qualification of new technologies.

OG21 and DEMO 2000 believe that suppliers and oil companies alike would benefit from reading the report. The application of new technologies is important to increase productivity and reduce costs on the Norwegian Continental Shelf. For that reason, it is of particular importance that we manage to get more technologies qualified and demonstrated for use on the NCS.
