Successful well workshops

In June, 270 experts have attended two OLF workshops in well integrity and plug abandonment challenges.

June 6 Well Integrity Forum (WIF) invited to it´s forth workshop. About 80 representatives from 18 operators, PSA, Sintef and Oil & Gas UK participated.

WIF’s objective with the workshop is present work having been addressed during the last year and identify focus areas to further improve attention and understanding on well integrity issues.

PSA attended the workshop and focused on their 2012 priorities and particularly on the RNNP’s reflections on well integrity. The main causes and root causes of degradation of barriers are issued to be addressed by WIF during the 2nd half of 2012.

Transfer of experience and lessons learned were given in interesting and informative case presentations by operators.

The participants became involved in good discussion during a quiz addressing the OLF guideline 122 on well integrity, and the workshop provided good information on this important guideline developed by WIF. The revision of NORSOK D-010 was focused with respect to changes proposed by WIF’s task force as well as the schedule for the industry hearing scheduled Q4 2012.

Experience transfer cross border was achieved by presentation from work being done by Oil & Gas UK in developing guidelines for well integrity issues. WIF is liaising with Oil & Gas UK in an effort to align and secure common understanding, terminology and as far as possible requirements.

WIF is a network reporting to OLF’s Drilling Manager Forum and is presently representing ten (10) operators. PSA is attending the meetings as observer.

High focus and interest on Plug and Abandonment (P&A) challenges.

June 14. OLF’s Plug and Abandonment Forum (PAF) arranged the second workshop at Sola June 14th 2012.

A very good attendance of 190 people attended the workshop, - and increase from about 120 in 2011!

The participants were in general a 50/50 mix between operators and service companies’ representatives. 16 operators and 32 service companies were represented. In addition R&D; universities and authorities were attending.

The attendance is a good indicator that PAF is succeeding to put emphasis on the P&A subject and raise the industry awareness of this topic. 190 participants on this specialized topic show the interest for P&A. It also shows that the service industry sees this as a business opportunity. PAF has also succeeded to inform the industry about typical challenges we have and where we as operators see the need for focus on technical developments.

Typical issues addressed in the workshop:
· Update on PAF work and NORSOK D-010 revision.
· Case presentations addressing P&A challenges in the Statfjord and Valhall Fields.
· Abandonment barriers
· Improving cementing and verification techniques
· New milling method
· Subsea abandonment and use of LWI

Finally, P&A forum has taken an initiative to cooperate with the University in Stavanger (UiS) in increase focus on P&A education and Research and this theme was presented by representative from UiS.

Good feedback from participants inspire for maintaining this workshop as an annual event.
