Stay cool in the night with Opera Mini 8

Looking for a better mobile web experience on your basic phone or BlackBerry device? Opera Mini 8 is out now, with a restyled look and features that bring out the best in your mobile phone. Custom made for the Java platform on basic phones, Opera Mini has more than 250 million monthly users worldwide and now comes with more features than ever.

The fresh, new look includes an improved Speed Dial start page with redesigned tiles. Speed Dial, one of Opera Mini's most popular features, provides easy, quick navigation to your favorite sites from hybrid mobile phones. A flat, minimalistic design throughout the browser brings a hot, new look to one of the most essential programs on your phone, letting you browse in style.Opera Software AS

“Roughly half of our 250 million Opera Mini users are on basic phones, also called feature phones, and, today, their browser got even better,” says Christian Uribe, Product Manager for Opera Mini, Opera Software. “Opera Mini 8 has a lot of new stuff to try out, including night mode and private mode, but, for us, it is also important that Opera Mini is a pleasure to look at. That is why we have redesigned it to have a fresh, new look that fits into the Opera mobile browser product line.”

But, beauty is not only skin deep in Opera Mini 8. New and existing users of Opera Mini get top-notch features otherwise seen in much more expensive phones — for free. Just check them out:

  • Night mode: Browsing the web on a bright mobile screen at night can feel a bit like looking into the sun. Opera Mini 8 includes a night mode that dims the effects of an ouch-that's-bright screen, using darker colors that are easy on your eyes. You can enable it in the Settings menu.
  • Improved savings reports: Need to keep track of how much you surf? The new and improved data-savings page lets you monitor and adjust how you save data, such as setting the quality of images, all in the same place — no detour into Settings needed. All your surfing is squeezed down to as little as 10% of its original size, so, if you are on a bad connection or paying for data as you go, Opera Mini 8 will keep you online longer.
  • Private mode: Need to lend your mobile to a friend for Facebook or Gmail checking? Opera Mini 8 now supports private tabs that don’t save information once the open tab is closed. That way, you can stay logged in on your main window, while your friend checks out his or her account in a private tab.
