Stable third Quarter Norwegian Salmon Exports

The value of Norwegian Salmon exports in the first nine months of the year totalled NOK 21.2 billion. This is a slight downturn of NOK 481 million compared to the same period last year. The volume of exports in the same period totalled 714,000 tonnes, an increase of 25% or 141,000 tonnes compared to the first nine months of 2011, according to the latest figures from the Norwegian Seafood Council.

The value of Norwegian Salmon exports in September increased by NOK 38 million to NOK 2.4 billion, while the volume of exports in September was up by 7% to 86,000 tonnes.

“The slight fall in the value of Norwegian Salmon exports this year to date is due to lower prices at the beginning of the year compared to the beginning of 2011,” says senior analyst Paul Aandahl from the Norwegian Seafood Council. “The price fall was the result of increased supply from Norway and other salmon producing nations.”
