Seven researchers receive prestigious Kavli-award

King Harald on Tuesday presented seven researchers from four different countries with the Norwegian Kavli award.

The researchers are being awarded for their work within astrophysics, nano science and neuroscience, and come from Vietnam, Germany, the U.S. and the U.K. King Harald handed over the awards at a ceremony in Oslo Concert Hall on Tuesday evening.

The Kavli award was established the American-Norwegian businessman and physicist Fred Kavli. The Norwegian Academy of Science and Letters, the Kavli foundation in the U.S. and the Ministry of Education stand behind the award, which was first presented in 2008.

Although the award ceremony was completed last night, the entire the week will feature events and seminars. Prime Minister Jens Stoltenberg held the opening speech at the 2012 Kavli Forum on Monday, and each of the award winners will give presentations at the University of Oslo and the Norwegian University of Science and TechnologyNTNU in Trondheim later this week.
