Schroeder in private talks with financier Roekke

German chancellor Gerhard Schroeder had private talks with the Norwegian industrialist Kjell Inge Roekke in Oslo on Monday evening. It was expected that the two discussed the future for the two ship building yards in Wismar and Rostock, which are both owned by Roekke's concern. The two had met in Germany earlier this year, and Roekke had invited Schroeder for further talks in Oslo. After their meeting, the talks continued at a private dinner at a downtown Oslo restaurant. Speaking to the press after their meeting, Schroeder praised Roekke as one of the most interesting personalities of international business, with great activities in Germany. He hailed Roekke as a man who had achieved a lot, "certainly without having been born with a silver spoon in his mouth." Union representatives at Kvaerner Warnow in Rostock says to NRK TV News that they expected that the chancellor and Roekke would talk about the present situation and the future strategy for the yards.
