The annual award presented by the Research Council of Norway recognises outstanding research, communication and innovation.

The Award for Outstanding Research went to Professor Bernt-Erik Sæther of the Department of Biology at the Norwegian University of Science and Technology (NTNU) in Trondheim together with Professor Steinar Engen of the Department of Mathematical Sciences of the same university.
Professors Sæther and Engen received the award for their interdisciplinary, internationally outstanding research in the modelling of biological processes in time and space, for their extraordinary efforts in putting Norway on the international map in population and conservation biology research, and for establishing the internationally acclaimed Centre for Biodiversity Dynamics at NTNU.
