Recruitment Scheme strengthened

The government announced in the White Paper "The world's leading seafood nation" that would continue and strengthen recruitment scheme.

It aims to help young and motivated fishermen to establish themselves in the fishing industry, said Minister of Fisheries and Coastal Affairs Lisbeth Berg-Hansen.

The department of Fisheries and Coastal Affairs has today adopted regulations requiring that it be announced twenty-five new recruitment quotas (participation rights) for 2014. This is an increase of 15 new participation rights from last year. A certain quota commercial operation basis is an important prerequisite for fishing with own ship, and provide greater predictability in operations.

The terms of the award continued with the addition of the applicant must have completed a valid safety course. The criteria to rank applicants when there are more applicants than participation rights, pointed slightly from this year's scheme and means that applicants with a certificate in fishing and hunting combined with at least three years of service priority.

The department of Fisheries and Coastal Affairs will announce participation rights and otherwise administer the scheme.
