Record year for stock offerings

Record year for stock offerings In 2000, Norwegian companies issued stock worth a record USD 4.8 billion (NOK 43 billion), or more than three times as much as last year. By November the previous record of USD 2.4 billion (NOK 21 billion), set in 1997, has been passed. The partial privatisation of Telenor earlier this month added USD 1.7 billion (NOK 15 billion) to the total. "The powerful increase shows that the market is flush with capital," said Tor Arne Olsen, spokesman for the Oslo Stock Exchange. Nearly a quarter of the value of the new stock was in information technology companies.
