NSB to build Norway's longest railway tunnel

The Department of Transport has presented plans for a new twin track railway line from Oslo to Ski, to increase the capacity to the east of the capital. It includes what will be Norway's longest rail tunnel.

It will be a 19 kilometre continuous twin tunnel, built to accommodate future high speed trains from Oslo to Gothenburg and Copenhagen, says Minister of Transport Magnhild Meltveit Kleppa.

Work on expanding the Oslo - Ski railway line is expected to begin in 2013.
