Norwegian producers Stargate honored in the U.S.

The Norwegian music producer-duo Stargate have been honored in the U.S. for their contribution to the close relationship between Norway and the U.S.

Every year, the Norwegian-American Chamber of Commerce awards a special prize to those who have meant something special to the relationship between Norway and the U.S. This year the award went to the Norwegian musical production and songwriter company Stargate. Wednesday evening, Mikkel Eriksen and Tor Erik Hermansen received the award at the Broad Street Ballroom in New York. "This award means a lot to us. Personally, I have had a dream about the U.S. since I was a little boy at home in Askim. Receiving this award is an acknowledgement that we have managed to create something between Norway and the U.S., and that means a lot," Hermansen tells NRK. Stargate has been very successful in the U.S., and has worked with artists like Rihanna, Katy Perry and Beyoncé. Mikkel Eriksen thinks it's positive when quality music is acknowledged in arenas such as the Norwegian-American Chamber of Commerce. "In Norway we are good at things like oil, fish and shipping. That they also recognize music and culture as a serious business and important export is great," he says to Aftenposten. The prize has been awarded for 20 years, and has previously been given Liv Ullmann, Grete and Jack Waitz and Stein Eriksen.
