Norwegian EUREKA chairmanship draws to a close

“Another important achievement is that we have simplified the processes related to the organisation’s meetings, so they can now be conducted far more efficiently than previously.

The feedback we have received on this has been very positive,” explains International Director at the Research Council of Norway Kristin Danielsen, who headed the Norwegian chairmanship.

South Africa is in

Full membership of EUREKA is only open to European countries, but other countries may apply for associated membership. At the latest EUREKA meeting held in June in Bergen, Norway, South Africa was formally accepted as a new associated member country. The agreement was signed by the Norwegian Minister of Trade and Industry Monica Mæland and the South African Minister of Science and Technology Naledi Pandor.
Other associated member countries are Canada and South Korea.

EU approval granted

In spring 2014 the new Eurostars programme was approved by the EU. Key changes to the programme include full funding for the EUREKA secretariat’s programme activities and funding by the European Commission of a greater proportion of EUREKA activities than previously. It has also been decided that countries not taking part in Horizon 2020 may still be allowed to participate in Eurostars 2, EUREKA and the European Commission’s joint initiative for promoting R&D-performing SME's.

“The Norwegian chairmanship also spearheaded the process of drawing up a new strategic roadmap for EUREKA. Many countries have taken active part in this effort and it has been a laborious task. We are very pleased both with the process itself and with the results,” says Kristin Danielsen.
