Norway's Prime Minister visits France

Norwegian Prime Minister Jens Stoltenberg on Wednesday met with French President Francoise Hollande in Paris. Main topic of their talks was the financial crisis.

President Hollande is one of the key players in the EU, which is currently struggling to get through the financial crisis.

The French president wanted to learn more about how Norway has involved the government as a third party in negotiations between employers and employees, The so-called three-party system has for example enabled the government to offer governmental support to pension funds or reduce tax, which in many cases has helped the employers and employees reach an agreement.

The prime minister also wanted to discuss several bilateral and international questions with Hollande, including energy and renewable energy resources. Norway provides 30 percent of France's natural gas consumption.

During their meeting, France's president confirmed to Stoltenberg that he has accepted the invitation by the Nobel Committee, and will attend the peace prize ceremony in Oslo in December.

This is an award that honors the European construction and courage that was the basis for creating a new Europe after the Second World War," Hollande says.

A total of 15-20 leaders from across Europe will attend the ceremony on December 10, making it one of the largest events in Norway in terms of the number of heads of state and government leaders that will be in Oslo.
