Norway to take over as Chair of EUREKA

Norway will be responsible for heading the organisation’s political efforts and network activities for a one-year term. The Research Council’s International Director, Kristin Danielsen, will be the linchpin of the effort with support from a dedicated secretariat at the Research Council of Norway and Eureka’s international secretariat located in Brussels.

“EUREKA will be launching Eurostars 2, the organisation’s link to the EU’s new framework programme for research, during Norway’s term of chairmanship. This gives us a unique opportunity to participate in high-level political discussions concerning European research policy,” Ms Danielsen states.

The Norwegian chairmanship kicks off at a large opening conference in Trondheim at the end of August 2013. Three major meetings will also be held during the term – in Oslo, Bergen and Brussels.
The final conference will take place in Bergen in June 2014 with minister-level participation. In Norway, the Ministry of Trade and Industry has the overall political responsibility for EUREKA participation.

  • In collaboration with the EU Commission, EUREKA runs the R&D programme Eurostars, an initiative directed towards R&D-performing SME’s.
  • EUREKA’s total annual budget is close to EUR 500 million.
  • Norwegian authorities allocate EUR 5 million annually to collaboration with EUREKA.
