Norway taking part in Horizon 2020

Norway has recently announced that they will be taking part in the Horisont 2020 programme that is due to start early next year.

Horizon 2020 is the EUs new research and innovation programme which will commence in the early parts of 2014. The programme has an estimated budget of 525 billion Norwegian kroner stretched over a seven year period.

These types of initiatives have previously separated the two disciplines, and this will be the first time that they are brought together under the EU umbrella. The programme consists of three main areas:

  • Curiosity and innovation within new areas of study.
  • Industry-orientated research and innovation
  • Research and innovation resolving shared challenges for the different participating countries.

The Norwegian government notes that Norway has been a strong contributor to developing the framework for the project and that it conforms to Norwegian priorities within the sectors. The government wants to ensure that they facilitate the progress of this programme as much as possible and are launching initiatives to ensure the best possible outcome of the project and collaboration.
