Norway asked to lead fight against piracy

The Norwegian government has been asked to head a new NATO-led international fight against piracy in the Bay of Aden and the Indian Ocean.

The Norwegian Navy is now preparing for a possible mission, which would mean sending a Norwegian frigate to the area..

- We have been given the task of prepare participation, and are well underway, says Navy General Inspector Bern Grimstvedt.

This will be the second time the Norwegian Defence sends a frigate to the waters around the Horn of Africa. Ten per cent of all ships which pass through these waters are Norwegian.
