North Sea accommodation platform evacuated

Statoil on Wednesday  evacuated most of the 374 persons from an accommodation platform on the Njord Field in the Norwegian Sea, after the platform began to list in the early hours of the morning.

The people were airlifted to the nearby main Njord Platform and other installations in the aarea, NRK reports.

Six helicopters and a nearby vessel are took part in the evacuation. No injuries were reported.

One of the floating elements of the Floatel Superior developed a leak, but stability has been re-established by filling one of the ballast tanks, Statoil reports to VG.

Of the 374 people on board the platform, only a sceleton crew will remain on the platform, Statoil says.
