New parliament amplifies the Sami voice

Norway got its second parliament building today when King Harald opened a new parliament building for the Sami (or Lapp) people in Karasjok, northern Norway.

The USD 13.7 million (NOK 126 million) structure includes a meeting hall for members of the Sami parliament, called Sametinget, as well as administrative offices and a library. Funded by the Norwegian state, the new landmark was characterised as a new anchor for Sami culture and a megaphone for the Sami political voice.
