New generation of aquaculture researchers

There has been a strong focus on researcher recruitment throughout the duration of the Aquaculture - An Industry in Growth (HAVBRUK) programme. In the peak year of 2009 more than 100 doctoral and post-doctoral research fellows were affiliated with projects funded under the programme.

“In a conscious effort to boost recruitment, we have given priority to projects that incorporated fellowship positions,” explains Sigve Nordrum, chair of the HAVBRUK programme board.

“The skills these young researchers possess will be important for the aquaculture industry, the research community and society at large for many years to come,” asserts Dr Nordrum. “They are an investment that will yield real, long-term returns.”

Research fellows met to present projects

In November 2013 the eight doctoral fellows carrying out projects under the HAVBRUK programme were invited to present their projects to the programme board.

“The presentations of all eight of the seminar participants were impressive,” says Dr Nordrum, who along with the other programme board members gave the researchers some valuable feedback on their projects.
