New fighter jets on defence wanted list

Norway's air force is planning to spend NOK 30 billion on 48 new military aircraft, despite the fact that politicians put a stop last year to the purchase of just 20 new fighter planes. Last year, the government quashed hopes of buying new machines because of a lack of funds. But it didn't take long before air force chiefs put together a completely new set of plans involving the delivery of 48 new fighter jets in 2010. "It's too soon to say a new project is fully underway," Major-General Tomas Colin Archer told Aftenposten. "But we are discussing the purchase of new planes," he said.
