Ness completes first phase of smart metering project for EZ

Two-month test operation will precede the launch to go live with the project valued at one million dollars

Ness Technologies, Inc., a global provider of IT and business services solutions and services, is presently completing the next to last phase of a smart metering project for ČEZ Měření, which operates metering equipment for the ČEZ Group and others. A two-month test operation will follow. The WPP AMM (Wide Pilot Project Automatic Meter Management) project, which began in July 2010, includes the implementation of a data centre using Powel ELIN data collection software and the related SAP NetWeaver interface. Powel AS is Ness’s partner in the project implementation.

The Powel ELIN data centre allows for new methods of electricity metering in the ČEZ Group. Intelligent metering devices will collect consumption data, evaluate it and use it for optimising the transmission grid management – all with the view of better serving the needs of customers, distributors and traders.

“Our involvement with WPP AMM is a benefit to us for several reasons. The energy generation and distribution sector is a long-term priority for Ness, and our customers already know we have solid know-how, experience and innovation potential in this field. Equally important was the fact that this is a continuation of our successful partnership with the ČEZ Group in projects in and beyond the Czech Republic,” explains Jiří Stich, Business Development Director at Ness.

“For ČEZ Měření, the WPP AMM project has been strategic since its inception. This is why we relied on a number of suppliers including Ness. Ness has been our partner in a number of other long term projects in the ČEZ Group and we believe will fulfill our expectations this time as well,” says Ondřej Mamula, WPP AMM Project Manager for ČEZ Měření. “The project seeks to first validate the functional modules of the AMM system. We plan to use the experience to decide whether to roll out AMM in the distribution network of ČEZ Distribuce, and possibly also nationwide.” adds Mamula.

“Powel AS strives to design systems which provide a fast return, optimise processes, and deliver operating efficiency with an emphasis on serving the customer. As the leading hardware independent software vendor in the metering business and long-term partner of Ness we are delighted to successfully apply our newest Smart Metering software to this exceptional and complex project, “says Enno Dreier, Director International Solutions, Powel AS.
