Mediation over drilling pay agreement

"Industry Energy won in the Industrial Disputes Court, so we'll have to play a return match over conditions in the drilling pay agreement," says Jan Hodneland, chief negotiator for the Norwegian Oil Industry Association (OLF).

Mediation efforts are to be pursued on Friday and Saturday, 31 August-1 September, at the office of the National Mediator in Oslo.

Should the two sides fail to agree by the deadline of early 2 September, the Industry Energy union has notified that 159 employees of drilling company KCA Deutag will go on strike.

These workers are employed on the Kvitebjørn field operated by Statoil and the Ringhorne field operated by ExxonMobil. Both lie on the Norwegian continental shelf.

The two sides have a duty of confidentiality during the mediation, and will have no opportunity to comment on the content or progress of this process.
