Market access in the BRIC countries, ..quo vadis?

The emerging markets of Brazil, Russia, India and China, as often referred to as the BRIC countries, are all presently in a mode of change concerning their national market access regimes for electrical products.

Nemko is, however, in the forefront of ensuring the best market access routes for the customers.

Brazil is opening for acceptance of CB scheme test reports for IT products and refrigeration compressor. Thus, their current suspension from the IECEE/CB scheme will be lifted for these types of products. For more information, please contactlars.hjerpseth@nemko.com.

In Russia, the former GOST certification system is withdrawn and from 15 February replaced by the new Customs Union (CU) regime. However, the two other CU countries so far, Belarus and Kazakhstan, do keep their former certification systems in parallel. Nemko has already arranged for several CU certificates. Existing certificates shall, in any case, be applicable in the respective countries until March 2015 (if still valid). For more information, please contact irina.bohmer@nemko.com.

File 2800In India, implementation of the new mandatory registration system for 15 specific types of electrical equipment is scheduled to be effective from April this year. The current understanding of the relevant regulation is that only test reports from labs in India approved by BIS (Bureau of Indian Standards) are accepted. If so, also India may risk suspension from the IECEE/CB scheme, like Brazil (ref. above).

For more information, please contact rahul.sankhayan@nemko.com.

File 3083In China, a new regulation launched last fall entails that more Chinese bodies have been designated for issuing of mandatory CCC-certificates. Therefore, the present single certification body for electrical equipment may in the future face some competition.
