Large Norwegian-US gathering on health and energy

Mykletun

We are very pleased that so many prominent US and Norwegian researchers have registered for the event, says Jostein Mykletun, Consul General of Norway in Houston.

More than 400 participants are registered so far.

“We are very pleased that so many prominent US and Norwegian researchers have registered for the event,” says Jostein Mykletun, Consul General of Norway in Houston. “Among those attending are Subra Suresh, Director of the National Science Foundation in the US, as well as Minister of Education and Research Kristin Halvorsen, Minister of Health and Care Services Jonas Gahr Støre, five Norwegian university presidents, and the Norwegian-American physicist, businessman and philanthropist Fred Kavli,” he continues.

According to Mr Mykletun, Texas and Norway have great potential to develop their research cooperation in a number of fields. “Houston has especially strong research groups in both energy research and health research. Science Week gives Norwegian researchers a unique opportunity to establish contacts with these groups.”

“We want to see the Norwegian researchers fly home with concrete plans in their luggage,” he says. “Each and every workshop should result in a project for expanded cooperation.”

Focus on young scientists

The title of this year’s event is “Bridging Partnerships”, referring to the overall objective to promote cooperation between Norway and the US on research, technology and innovation.

Held this year for the 11th time, Science Week will be hosted by the Royal Norwegian Consulate General in Houston and the Royal Norwegian Embassy in Washington, D.C., in close cooperation with four Norwegian ministries, Rice University and MD Anderson Cancer Center.
