Intelecom wins Johan Sverdrup contract

Norwegian company to help Statoil deliver the communication solutions of the future for Johan Sverdrup.

Intelecom, a leading supplier of cloud-based and customer located communication solutions, has won a contract with Statoil for the Johan Sverdrup field. The contract is a part of a major framework contract where the Johan Sverdrup development is the first concrete delivery. The contract is valued at more than NOK 35 million and extends for five years, with an option for a further four years.

The contract, which initially is a five-year framework contract, comprises deliveries of a total of eight work packages in the fields of telephony, data networks, data and telephone cabling, telemonitoring systems, interaction, fibre optic and multi-access systems.

Petter Jenssen, Managing Director of Intelecom, says on behalf of the company that he is humble and proud to have won the prestigious contract.

“The contract concerns four new platforms that are to be delivered with the communication solutions of the future. In practice, it means that we will contribute to make the Norwegian petroleum industry more competitive by using a combination of new and proven technology. We are a small yet important piece in the puzzle, who in cooperation with others will take part in developing the petroleum industry of the future,” he says.

MUST COPE WITH LOWER PRICES PER BARREL

Petter Jenssen says the use of communication technology is a part of the strategy to develop a less price-sensitive petroleum industry.

“The Norwegian oil bonanza is under pressure. What we now are a part of is a small step in the right direction to create an oil sector that is more robust in terms of coping with lower oil prices. By implementing advanced communication technology, production costs can be significantly reduced. For example, the technology makes it possible to monitor and better control planned and unplanned shutdowns, or remotely monitor petroleum installations,” he explains.

TOUGH OFFSHORE MARKET

Intelecom perceives the offshore market as tough, while also seeing an increase in demand for the company’s services.

“The competition in the market is tougher than ever, and the tender process in connection with Johan Sverdrup has been intense and demanding. Thanks to the requisite commitment and dedication from all parties involved, we have proven that Intelecom is a competitive and attractive supplier for critical deliveries to the offshore market,” Petter Jenssen says.

“We have taken one step at a time and established a tradition for good deliveries, which has been noticed. Our successful delivery on Edvard Grieg for Lundin has been an important reference for us.

THE JOHAN SVERDRUP FIELD

The giant Johan Sverdrup field will start production in 2019, and is one of the largest fields on the Norwegian continental shelf ever. The lifetime of the field is estimated at approx. 50 years. The field contains between 1.7 and 3 billion barrels of extractable oil equivalents. Statoil is the operator on the field, which will be developed in several stages. The first stage has a capacity of 315,000 to 380,000 barrels of oil equivalents per day, and the field is assumed to constitute around 25% of overall oil production on the Norwegian continental shelf when in full production.
