Hydro reportedly wins big BMW contract

Industrial conglomerate Norsk Hydro has reportedly won a major contract to deliver aluminum parts to automaker BMW. The deal is said to be worth NOK 2 billion (about USD 222 million).

The contract is being viewed as a breakthrough in the use of aluminum in cars, according to newspaper Dagens Næringsliv. The paper reports that Hydro Automotive Structures will deliver motor frames in aluminum to BMW for the next generation of its 5-series, due to appear in summer 2003.

Neither BMW nor Hydro would confirm the deal.
