Herring exports break new record

More than NOK 3 billion worth of herring was exported from Norway during the first 11 months of this year. That's up from NOK 2.4 billion during all of last year. High herring prices get much of the credit for the record exports, and Norway's quota of 484,500 tons has already been caught. Most of the catch went directly for consumption, which attracts higher prices than herring (called "sild" in Norwegian) used in byproducts. The price per kilo of herring has risen from NOK 3.88 last November to NOK 7.35 today. Exports mostly go to markets in Asia and Eastern Europe
