Front End Engineering and Design goes to Aker

Norway's Aker Solutions has stated work on Front End Engineering and Design for the giant Johan Sverdrup field development.

Within hours of lead operator Statoil saying concept selection for the field development would be finalised by early 2014 both Statoil and Aker announced that it had won the FEED work.

Aker says the award – which is a framework contract - will “...define Aker Solutions for years to come,” and the deal – worth an initial NOK 650 million (US $105.m) includes options for engineering, procurement and project management for up to ten years. Further work later in the field's life is optional

Øyvind Eriksen, chairman of Aker Solutions says the deal will be significant for the company for years: “The Johan Sverdrup field is one of Norway's largest offshore oil discoveries and of huge importance to both our company and the country's oil and gas industry.”

Aker's involvement at the early stage will put it at the centre of Norway's largest field development for years, which will seek to tap reserves currently estimated to be between 1.8 and 2.9 billion barrels of oil in the Norwegian sector of the North Sea.
