Executives from seafood and petroleum meet

Top executives from the Norwegian seafood industry and petroleum industry will meet at Gardermoen on Thursday, 23 February for the first meeting of the executive forum Ett hav.

«The overall objective is to promote cooperation and thus pave the way for further value creation from Norway’s two main industries, » says Chairman Leiv Grønnevet of Ett hav.

The executive forum Ett hav was established to promote dialogue between the seafood industry and the petroleum industry.  The forum was set up based on both parties’ desire for closer collaboration and a lower conflict level.

«From the very start, it will be important to establish a common understanding of reality – a platform where the accountable top executives can raise various issues and find solutions for these, » Grønnevet says.

Challenges and synergies
Better coordination and collaboration on acquisition of seismic has already been identified as one topic for the executive forum.

«With two different industries operating at sea simultaneously, and often in the same waters, we have to acknowledge that conflicts do arise from time to time between the fishing industry and seismic acquisition activities. The petroleum industry wants to contribute to improving cooperation at sea, with a view to avoid conflicts, » says Gro Brækken, Managing Director of the Norwegian Oil Industry Association (OLF).

Both industries believe there is significant potential for increased collaboration also within other areas, such as oil spill preparedness.

«I believe that Ett hav will be a forum in which we can promote dialogue and understanding between the two most important industries in Norway, » says Reidar Nilsen, Chairman of the Norwegian Fishermen’s Association.

«One of the main challenges will be to broaden both industries’ knowledge of each others’ needs and activities. Dialogue and contact are key concepts in this respect, » Nilsen believes.
